Anyway, it took us a while to get the lid off of the pan since it was waiting to fall into hundreds of shards of glass if we put any pressure on the handle. We got it off without any glass garnish on the veggies, so we thought dinner was saved, until we tasted the chicken...way over seasoned. Oh well, perfect way to control our portions. I guess next time we will order takeout.

Anniversary O' Plenty
Kirk & I went to San Diego this past weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We stayed at a very nice hotel called Se San Diego. When we got there we were greeted with cucumber infused champagne and were escorted up to our room. About an hour after being there, we had a knock on our door...what was it? Oh, just an adorable tray with a fresh orchid, amazing chocolate mousse and a berry puree along with a note wishing us a Happy Anniversary. Next we were off to dinner at The Oceanaire (for those of you Top Chef fans - Brian Malarkey is the executive chef at the San Diego location). When we arrived, they told us that it would be a 15 minute wait for a booth, which we were fine with...they ushered us to the bar where we were greeted 2 minutes later with 2 glasses of champagne on the house and the bar tender wishing us a Happy Anniversary from the restaurant manager. We eventually were seated and had one of the best meals of each of our lives...not to mention the best restaurant service we have ever had. The meal was topped off with our server bringing a free "Happy Anniversary Dessert" to our table. It was Baked Alaska...oh yeah...she poured 151 all over that sucker and lit it on fire. Very cool, wish I would have had my camera! Anyway...such a great night, very memorable.
The next morning we were woken up by our hotel room phone ringing...here was the conversation -
Julie: "Is that our phone? What time is it?"
Kirk: "I don't know, where is the clock?"
Julie: "Hellllo?..." (very groggy, scratchy) - no answer...dial tone
Kirk: "That was annoying."
1 minute later - phone rings again...
Julie: "Hello?... (annoyed)
Hotel Lady: "Yes, this is your 6:15 wake up call."
Julie: "We did not ask for a wake up call."
Hotel Lady: "oh,...I am very sorry about that. Goodbye."
Julie: "That sucked."
Kirk: "I better be able to fall back asleep!"
$300 a night and they can't even get the room numbers right for a wake up call. But hey, if that was the only annoying part of the weekend, it was worth it.
We spent the rest of the afternoon on Sunday in La Jolla with friends of Kirk that I had never met before. Very fun, they live up the street from the beach...Kirk was very jealous. We then headed back up to OC to have dinner with my mom and watch the Oscars.
Today is our actual anniversary and Kirk has to be in Sacramento for work until Tuesday night...so I am flying up to meet him for dinner, stay the night and fly back to work in the morning.
I just want to give a shout out to the other wonderful things to celebrate today other than our anniversary!!!
Happy Birthday to Josh Caruana!
Happy Birthday to Anita Goodall!
Happy Anniversary to The Murray's!
Happy Early Birthday to Sheri Hammer!
Peace out!

1 Year of Marriage Down...Bout' Time to Start a Blog? Sure!

This past week I found myself visiting my favorite blogs (Sarah Fitz, Twin, Caruana Clan, Long Winded, The Davenports, Make it into Something Beautiful...etc) as I usually do, and I realized that I sometimes find myself somewhat annoyed when I log on only to see that there are no new posts. I know that it sounds lame, especially because people have better things to do than sit there and write to appease me and my desire to know what is going on with my friends and family, including funny stories, fun pictures and possible prayer requests. So I decided...maybe I should start a blog to see how it is being the writer instead of just the blog reader (sometimes stalker) that I am currently.
This brings me to my first blog topic...since I know that when I tell Kirk about the blog he will have the reaction of "Are you kidding me?" since he thinks I already spend mucho time on other people's blogs and that evil website otherwise known as Facebook, I thought it would be good to start with a blog about some of the best things about my husband...in honor of our 1st year wedding anniversary this coming Monday the 23rd. Woo Hoo to us!
Some of The Things I Love About Being Married To Kirk...
- He is manly man...no product, no cologne, no muss-no fuss! The man gets ready in 15 minutes and looks as handsome as ever.
- His intelligence. I always wanted to marry someone smarter than me. That may sound weird, but it's true...missioned accomplished. "My boy is wicked smart!"
- His endearing, playful "are you serious" face when I prove that he is smarter than me. Examples: "Let's go up to Northern California...like to Santa Barbara" - "What year did the Renaissance Era happened in America?"...Don't ask :)
- He can cook! He is a grill-master and makes a mean shrimp pasta with white wine & garlic lemon sauce.
- He is not a fighter. Since dating and through our first year of marriage, we have had a few serious discussions, but not once have we been in a fight. He knows how to defuse my anger, calm me down and love my emotion & passion.
I could go on...but I will save the more lovey dovey ones to write in his anniversary card :) Anyway, here I go into the land of blogging.
