Kare Bear Sitting

Last Friday I took a vacation day to head up to SLO with Kirk for the weekend. The twin did not have a babysitter for Karis in the morning, so I took one for the team and let my extra sleep-in day go. I got up there around 7:30 ish and the bear was NOT in the best mood.
By the advise of the twin, I cured her little ball of sassiness by stuffing her face with food. Bananas to be specific. This gal loves her some nanners! At this time I also played my favorite David Letterman game - Hair Piece, Not a Hair Piece and although it was a tough call...it is NOT a hair piece.
We then went in to play mode and because I like to mess with kiddos, I stuck her in a box. Who does not want to play in a box? For your viewing pleasure - Karis in a Box!
Then I built a fort for her. Her first fort. It wasn't anything big, but she loved it. Crawled in by herself with no pushing or bribing from auntie hools! She hung out playing in there for a while and I crawled in with her too! Then she tore it down, because that is half the fun of a fort.

Then because she is the bestest kid of all time, she took a 3 hour nap! And Mom Mom showed up to take over for me before she even woke up. Come on twin! Just give her to me and have another one with David. You know you don't want to see me and Kirk kidless!!! Hook a twin up!

Book Review: The Book Thief

I just finished reading The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak on our road trip to SLO this weekend and this is absolutely one of the best books I have ever read. I was pretty sure I would love it as all I knew about it before reading was that it was set in WWII Germany and the narrator of the book is Death!

With the strangly beautiful and poinent viewpoint of Death as he collects the many souls of WWII victims, he also tells the story of Liesel, a young girl...a book thief. A story of her relationships with sorrow, hope, friends, family, death and books. I would normally give a lil' detailed summary of the book, but in this case I don't want ruin anything for anyone who might read it. And I hope that everyone reads it. The author is superb at getting the reader to care about the characters. I don't know if I could pick a favorite character, but if at gunpoint I would probably say Hans...with Rudy as a close second.  I routed for these "people" and truly cared about each of their stories and endings.

For sure this book will sit in my top 5! If anyone has read it, or when you do read it, let's please get together to break some bread and dicsuss why this book is epic.

60...Oh Fooey!

My awesome mother-in-law/step mom Sherri turned 60 towards the end of January and we threw her a party with all of her friends and family in tow. It was such a great night and we loved getting to celebrate Sherri and her 60 years of sass and fooeyness.

Appetizer City! The twins famous spinach dip, Robin's yummo caprese salad kabobs, meatballs and tomato basil soup shooters with grilled cheese dippers.

It wouldn't be a party for Sherri without some babies representin'!

Happy birthday to mom mom from Kare Bear!

Wendy created some gorgeous flower arrangements, with orange being Sherri's signature color.
 Prescott Ladies!
 Jules and Laney!
 Kami "stealing" the show.

Instead of a slide show or pictures in frames around the room I scanned a ton of pics from Sherri's 60 years, turned them all to black and white and built my own sixty collage.
