Book Review: Me Talk Pretty One Day

Our little Seattle weekend gave me the perfect short plane ride opportunity to read Me Talk Pretty One Day, by David Sedaris. This book was highly recommended by both Mariah & Erin so I was super excited to read it. It did NOT disappoint. It it hilarious.

Basically a collection of essays, he touches on stories from his childhood and adulthood - ranging from his father forcing him to take guitar lessons from a little person (yes...small hands, smell like cabbage) when all he wants to do is sing tv jingles...to spending time in Paris with his boyfriend realizing what A-holes some American tourists can be, which really hit home with me as I witnessed some really lame  "embarrassing to be an America" moments in Europe last year.

Some of my favorite moments included his sister Amy (who you may know from Elf or Strangers with Candy. Their relationship is hilarious and filled with her pretty much lighting up the whole family at one time or another. My favorite, her yelling as she jumps off the subway leaving him on the train with a ton of strangers...
"Bye David, hope you beat those rape charges!"
So wrong, but I Love it!

So Good!

You may have already seen this, but I have watched it so many times and still love it, so you should watch it regardless!!! Carrie is bringing it home...bringing the CHURCH!

Carrie Underwood & Vince Gill singing How Great Thou Art

I also just read an interview with her where they asked her what she and her husband do in their off-time. She said that they don't go out much, on their collective days off they can be found at home reading the bible together and watching tv. Aside from her being a strict vegetarian...I think I would LOVE to be besties with Carrie.

For the Love of Levi

A few weekends ago Kirk and I hopped in the truck, stopped in Los Al to pick up the Bower Clan and made the trek up to Valencia for the Cystic Fibrosis Walk. We participate in this walk to support the Davenport Fam (who are pretty much one of the greatest families of ALL time) and raise money to find a cure for this crappy disease. It was a great day hanging with great friends supporting a cause that is near and dear to us and our whole circle of friends. We are prayerfully confident that a cure will be found! and that Levi will live a full and active, amazing life.

With the help of incredibly generous family and friends, Kirk and I were the top money raisers (aside from the Davenports) on our team - raising over $1,100. Thank you SO much to everyone who donated and supported us and the cause. The For the Love of Levi team raised around $13,000 total - AWESOME!

Auntie Hoolay...Again

Last Wednesday I became an auntie again and I loved every second of it, especially when I got to hold Miss Karis Avery Wilson for the first time. Glad that Mariah was there to capture it! (Speaking of Pye (mariah), click here to check out her photography blog for AMAZING photos she took that day! And click here for more photos she took of Karis after she was home.)
Around 2:58 am Wednesday morning I woke up out of a dead sleep with horrible cramps. I was sweating and aching in pain. I picked up my phone to check the time hoping that it was late enough to just get up and take a hot shower before work, but when I saw that it was so early...I just threw off my covers got into the fetal position and eventually fell back to sleep. At 5:45 am I woke up to the phone ringing...

Me: Hello?
David: Thunder Cats Are a Go!
Me: No way, that is awesome. I am going to hop in the shower and I will call you when I am about to leave for the hospital.
David: Sounds good, we are going to take our time, but leave pretty soon.

I showered, packed up a cooler full of otter pops (red, green and orange ONLY) per the twin's request and headed to the hospital. Called Pye on the way to make sure she knew what was going on. Couldn't have Wendy "let her bottom out" with out her coach there.

Sometime during the Twin's labor, they told me that Wendy woke up with crazy contractions, pretty much in labor right before 3:00 AM!!! That's right people. One of those crazy...slightly creepy TWIN MOMENTS! I was having twin ESP...cramps for my twin!

Back to labor. Wendy was pretty much made to have babies, which is ironic considering after Karis was born when uttered multiple times that she will not be doing this again and that adoption sounds real good! She was such a champ, having the baby naturally, just like she had hoped for and with a very quick (but painful) delivery. Her nurse Candace was nothing short of AWESOME and was able to calm Wendy when none of the rest of us could get her to focus away from the pain. Her doctor (which was not her normal OBGYN, but the on-call doc) was also AMAZING! The prefect balance between a hard-ass and a cheerleader, knowing just what to say to get Wendy and Karis through the moments with as little stress and duration as possible. I would LOVE to have both of them present when I get the privilege of having a little munchie!

Welcome to the world Karis, 8 days old, and you are already my bestie!

Is it Wrong?

I have a feeling I am going to be blogging a lot more with this new ongoing topic.

We went to The Counter today for lunch...me, the twin, David and the Husbro. Ordered a 1/3 beef burger with Gruyere cheese, julienne carrots, organic greens, whipped avocado and Chipotle aioli on a wheat bun with some sweet potato fries. As I was dipping said fries into some ranch I noticed the ranch was pretty runny and that it was a race to get the fry to my mouth before it dripped. After about 15 fries...I lost the race.

Is it wrong that when a big glop of ranch plopped right into my glass of Mr Pibb, instead of asking for a new one, I just used my straw to stir it around and then took a big gulp? Mmmmm, Tangy!

Is It Wrong?

I am starting a new ongoing blog entry called Is It Wrong

Why? Because often enough I see something or hear something and my first thought and/or reaction is a tad off what would be considered a normal reaction. I want to share those reactions with the people...and let others be the judge.

When I was leaving the test kitchen this week, I saw a man riding his bike to work in dress pants and a tie. I found this pic...it is pretty much an exact replica of what rode right past me while walking to my car. Except we were in a mall parking lot, not what appears to be Provo Utah.
While he rushed by me on his 2-wheeler, my first instinct was not that he cares about the environment, or that he is trying to exercise more...but instead, I immediately thought DUI!
